About the Event

Networking can have a negative connotation if we don’t think about doing it authentically. Join us on June 8th as Dr. Ellie Burns with the Community Foundation explores how building an authentic network can lead to connections that will make us all better together!

Dr. Ellie Burns, Ed.D. serves as the Director of Nonprofit Relations with the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. In this role, she gets to network every day as she works closely with nonprofit board and staff members, grantmaker colleagues and community partners to support the overall health and wellbeing of the nonprofit sector in Greater Des Moines.

Ellie’s networking skills were fostered throughout a variety of experiences in her life. Experiences which include:

  • Transitioning from a one-room country school (pop. 8) to “town” school (pop. 180) in 7th grade and then to the University of Nebraska, Lincoln (pop. 20,000+) for college.
  • A move from her home state of Nebraska to Kentucky to Iowa to Michigan and back to Iowa.
  • Careers as a HS Special Education Teacher, Education Consultant, and as the Director of Pre-College TRIO Programs.

When not networking, she enjoys running, shopping, learning the best Instagram poses from her daughter Sophia, and exploring Des Moines with her husband Scott.
